Welcome to 2022, Hawks! Hope everyone had a nice holiday season, but now it is time to get to work again. Champions are made in the off-season, which means we need to start running. Only nine more weeks until our first practice. That’s not as much time as you think.
So here’s the deal, we need to attack this time off in two ways. First, we need to do some running. Some of you have your own workout schedule (I am happy to send anyone else his or her own if you want, just let me know). For others, unless you are in a very active alternative sport like indoor soccer, you need to get some runs in each week. Studies show that you can’t just hope to fit in your runs and expect to be successful. You need to plan out your workouts ahead of time, setting time aside 2 to 3 days each week, and then follow through. Some of you, the goal only needs to be two or three miles each run. For others, you need to get those 3-mile runs in and add a longer run on the weekend. Hawks who do the work in the next two months will find more success during track season, and will comprise our gray and black groups. Unfortunately, those who sit all week and don’t get the runs in will struggle and be at higher risk for injury. Our second attack strategy this winter is a new effort – the Hawks Winter Conditioning Camp. Beginning January 15th, weather permitting (conditioning exercises may not be suitable for rainy days), I will be at the Boat House at 9am on Saturday Mornings to conduct our camp - anyone can attend. We will do a short warm up, and then circuit strength training and running drills. We shouldn’t be more than an hour, but the strength will really help with the beginning of the season and with avoiding injuries. With these two efforts, we will be setting ourselves up for some real success this spring and summer! Remember, practices begin on March 14th, so get yourself ready and invite a friend and let’s make this next season even more successful than our last! Any questions, please reach out to me any time.
