WHERE Texas A&M University Dale Watts Cross Country Course College Station , TX WHEN December 9-10, 2022 OVERVIEW The season is progressing well and quite a few of our athletes have the potential to qualify for the USATF National Junior Olympics, which will be held in College Station, Texas on December 10, 2022. Nationals is a great opportunity for the Hawks to compete at a high level with athletes from all over the country. Not every Delta Hawk will qualify this year, and no one is required to compete (even if they do qualify), but if you’re interested, please talk with Coach Eric or Coach Galen about the likelihood of your athlete qualifying so you can start planning. Athletes can qualify as individuals or as part of a team in their age group, with up to eight athletes qualifying as part of a team. Right now, it looks like we have a very good chance of fielding qualifying teams in the Girls 9-10, Girls 11-12, and Boys 13-14 age groups. It is also possible that we field a qualifying team in the Boys 11-12 age group. If your athlete is in one of these age groups, please check in with the coaches and prioritize attendance at the association and regional qualifying meets (see below). QUALIFICATIONS
FEES The fees for the races will be covered by the Delta Hawks but airline costs, hotels and any other travel expenses will be the responsibility of the athlete's family. We have limited scholarship funds to offset travel costs for athletes who may need financial assistance; please talk to one of the coaches at practice. TIMELINE Friday, December 9: Afternoon course walkthrough for all athletes (Many runners will arrive on Thursday to be sure they can make it to the course walkthrough) Saturday, December 10: Race Day! Sunday, December 11: Depart HOTEL OPTIONS College Station is a small town and the accommodation options are limited, so we suggest making arrangements as soon as possible. AIRPORTS George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Houston-Hobby (HOU) in Houston along with Austin- Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) in Austin are the closest international airports; all are about 1 hour 40 min outside of College Station. *IAH has a ground shuttle option to College Station.* There is also an airport right in College Station, Easterwood Airport (CLL), with Uber and Lyft options to/from the airport. MORE INFORMATION For more travel details, weather info, hotel booking options, and race-day course maps you can check out “resources” at this USATF link: 2022-usatf-national-junior-olympic-cross-country-c QUESTIONS We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns! And as always, please let us know if you have any questions! Sincerely, Delta Hawks Management Team We wanted to take a moment to explain how the rest of the season will work when it comes to racing. First, cross country practice will go through December 14.
There are 3 meets that make up the Championship Season. Those meets are Association Championships, Regional Championships and National Championships. Runners must qualify to each additional round of championships as a team or as an individual. Here is how that works: Association Championships (11/24 @ Folsom HS) The first thirty (30) individual finishers and first five (5) teams in each division (age group) will qualify to Regionals. Regional Championships (12/1 @ Woodward Park, Fresno) The first thirty (30) individual finishers and first five (5) teams in each division (age group) will qualify to Nationals. National Championships (12/14 @ Madison, WI) The Hawks goal is simple - QUALIFY AS MANY HAWKS AS POSSIBLE TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS. Qualifying in and of itself is a major accomplishment. If families choose to travel to Wisconsin for Nationals is entirely up to them. We understand its a tough time of year and a very expensive trip. At this point, the coaches anticipate based off of conversations we have had that no one will travel to Wisconsin this year. If you have an interest in going please reach out to Coach Dusty, Staci or Phil asap. PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR ASSOCIATION & REGIONAL CHAMPS. AS WE TELL THE KIDS ALL THE TIME - HAWKS ARE STRONGER TOGETHER. Saturday, September 14, 2019

Saturday, September 7, 2019 LETS RACE We encourage every athlete to race whenever given the opportunity. First, racing together is the best way we can contribute to each other and second the only way to gain confidence and improve is to race often. After all, we are the Delta Hawks Youth RACING Team! WHO IS RACING - RSVP by Sunday, 9/1 at 3:00pm Please follow the link to RSVP for the race. When we request RSVPs we need to know YES or NO. If you are a NO please still follow the link and tell us. This way we don't have to hunt you down for an answer. RSVP HERE --> ARRIVE EARLY The most important thing about this meet is to know you need to arrive early. There is only one way in to Lagoon Valley Regional Park and it can back up on that road a long ways. Do not stress yourself or your athlete out by arriving late. Directions and parking below. TIME SCHEDULE Meet at Team Tent: 7:00am Warmup Starts: 7:10am (boys), 7:20 (girls) Race Starts: 8:00am (boys), 8:15 (girls) We suggest arriving to Lagoon Valley Regional Park by 6:40am to give yourself time to park and find the team tent. PARKING & DIRECTIONS - $5.00 PARKING FEE Westbound I-80 to Lagoon Valley Rd exit. Turn left at the top of the off ramp. Proceed approximately ½ mile to the service entrance. Turn left and follow signs to the parking area. RACE DETAILS All Hawks will race 1.5 miles on a relatively flat course that is spectator friendly. When you arrive at the tent one or more of the coaches will take your kids on a warmup and guide them through the morning. Honestly, you won't see a ton of them until after the race. We will go over these details at practice on Friday so that they are fresh in everyones mind. RACE MORNING We are often asked what an athlete should eat on race morning. To be there by 6:40am you are going to leave the house by around 6:00am, which means your kids will be up before 6:00am. Which is great. They can have a decent breakfast at that point or have something healthy but simple on the car ride. Bring along water and a simple snack. By 6:45am, you will shouldn't be eating anything else. Hello Hawk Families,
Summer is just about wrapped up and that means one thing - Cross Country Season!!! We are excited to get started at our cross country kick off on Sunday, August 11 at 3:00pm at the Boat House. We would like to get a jump start on renewing memberships. Below is a list of things you should be aware of. ONLINE REGISTRATION - we are using an online registration software that helps us with administering the team more efficiently. There will be a $5.00 transaction fee but know that we chose a platform that keeps transaction fees to a minimum. PRICE INCREASE - The price has increased from $140 to $160. The team is not a money making endeavor and coaches are still all volunteer based. The main reason for the increase is AAU membership fees. You would have been asked to pay for these fees for insurance but it is logistically easier if we build the fees in and register all Hawks at once. PRACTICE DAYS - practices are Tuesday (5:30p), Friday (5:30p) and Sunday (3:00p) this season to avoid the Delta United of Clarksburg Soccer practices on Tuesday/Thursday. We can’t avoid all conflicts but a high percentage of our current members participate in Delta United so this adjustment was necessary. RACE SCHEDULE - find an easy access Race Schedule on the website menu and on the Team App menu. REGISTER NOW Returning athletes should register now, we have a pre-registration deadline of August 6. Starting Aug 7th all parents/athletes that have not renewed will be removed from the Team APP as we prep to have a current group of families on the APP. Please DO NOT share the registration link below. All new athletes must attend the free two week Try Out to ensure each athlete is ready for Delta Hawks. Register at https://deltahawks.redpodium.com/2019-delta-hawks-cross-country-season Choose returning athlete option. We still honor a $25 discount for multiple athletes in one family. This is built into the registration but all athletes must be registered at the same time. Also, the discount does not apply to the "first athlete". We look forward to seeing all of you. WHO FLYS? WE DO!!!! |
